I'm new to this site but have been an avid visitor of Anza Borrego for quite some time. My parents introduced the park to my sister and I in the early 1980s when we used to ride our dirt bikes from the Superstition Mountains to the Iron Door in Ocotillo Wells and then further north into Anza Borrego. I wasn't a fan of AB at first because you needed a street legal bike, and I didn't have one. My parents loved it though as there were far fewer people racing around unchecked like at Superstition Mtns or Glamis, and so they purchased some property in the early 1980s. Once I turned 16 and bought a Toyota 4x4, I fell in love with Anza Borrego. My dad and I actually drove the entire length of Coyote Canyon in the early 90s before they closed off the middle portion permanently. That was a fun trip that I will remember forever. My wife and I are members of the ABNHA and have recently been attending many hikes since our kids left for college. FREE BIRDS AT LAST!!! I recently climbed to the top of Villager Peak which has been on my bucket list of peaks for over 20 years. Finishing that peak has raised my interest in Peak 6582 and that is what led me here. I was searching for different routes on the web and I eventually wound up here. Anyway, it's nice to meet everyone!

Marc

P.S. I'm working with James McKenna and Diana Lindsay and we're going to resurrect the Peg Leg Liar's contest next Spring 2023, so get your tall tales ready!

Welcome to the site. It's a little dead here in the summer months but will pick up during the cooler season. I'm sadly not in good enough shape to tackle peak 6582 myself, but I've been in the "neighborhood." Having done a significant portion of Schad's suggested approach route, I think if I ever were to do it I'd approach from Rockhouse Canyon instead. Slightly longer but much less demanding. I know several people here have summited it from various routes, so hopefully they will chime in.

Welcome,
As Brian mentioned, a little slow here during the triple digits out in the deserts. You will find the brain trust here has a wealth of information of the surrounding wilderness in and around ABDSP. Much thanks to our host for making this forum possible. I first came into the Anza Borrego valley in the 1960's. Came out after the 6.6 1968 Borrego mountain E.Q. and have been hiking the region ever since. I too rode up in a 4x4 up Coyote canyon all the way through up to Anza back in the day. 6582 has been on my list after climbing Rabbit and Villiger also. The preferred route is up from Clark Lake. Maybe next season? I have been spending most of my time exploring the east side of the Santa Rosas past few seasons. Again welcome.

Welcome! As someone else mentioned, there will probably be more posts as it cools off. Lots of people on here spend a lot of time in Anza Borrego. I haven't driven the old Coyote Canyon route but I've mountain biked it years ago.

A number of people on here have hiked many peaks in the area including 6582. I've only done Schad's route to 6582. It is a step up in difficulty from the standard Villager route. Imagine doing Villager from Clark Dry Lake up one of the ribs instead of the easy ridge trail.

Welcome to the forum! Lots of great people and info here and it will get more traffic as the weather cools.

AB is one of my favorite places to hike. Like you said, a lot less crowded than most places even during peak months.

I just did 6582 at the end of March as a day hike. It was already a little warm. One of the most difficult hikes in AB, but amazing scenery all the way.

It turns out I was wrong about that, because Rocko1 and I just did it. We used the Rockhouse Canyon route.
