The Camp Pendleton MudRun has become so popular that you basically have to sign up 3-4 months in advance. Unfortunately October's MudRun sold out by July so many of the regular crew missed the sign up. We only had 5 of our San Diego Racers competing where we usually have 9 or 10. Hopefully everyone learned their lesson and will be signing up early for next June's Mud Run..hint, hint.
Now onto the good stuff.
Saturday morning we had sunny, crystal clear skies.
By 8AM the temperature was already feeling pretty warm so everyone was a bit worried about how things would go out on the 6.6 mile course. The race was underway by 9AM. Unfortunately this year the river bed was dry...aka no river swim.
Now, a LOT of people prefer it this way. You basically come down the 1 mile hill hit the mud wall and then run across the dry river bed. Personally I love the river swim. You get a break from running since you can use your upper body to propel through the water and it cools you off. Another reason is that it slows everyone down. If you know how to get through river fast you can really gain some time here. This year it was not to be, so if you are like Bob and count on having a river to swim through you were SOL.
Rest of the course was basically the same except they built up some pretty large berms by the second mud pit/wall which forced you to scramble up them.
When the mud finally cleared we had Bob winning the 40-44 open men's division, Linda placing 4th in her age group (by a minulte), Jake ( on his inargural MudRun) placing a respectable 13th, Susan P. beating hubby John P and finally Tom Colley placing 4th in the Boots and Utes category.
Great job everybody!
