HZJ80 Dual Battery Upgrade

One of the most important upgrades to an expedition vehicle you can do is adding a dual battery system. A dual battery system with some sort of battery isolator will allow you to run your 12-volt accessories without fear of draining your starting battery. In our particular case we run an Engel MT-45 Fridge to keep food and beverages cold when we are camping out in Anza Borrego.

To accomplish this task, I opted for the National Luna Split Charger Kit. I had read a glowing review in the Overland Journal so I figured this would be a good choice. This National Luna system is sold as a complete kit including heavy gauge wiring and all of the connectors you need. I did end up buying some heat shrink tubing, a second fusebox and a 12-Volt plug which were the only items not included.

Installation is fairly simple and straight forward as is indicated by the one page instruction sheet. It was so simple in fact I actually called Paul at Equipt because I wasn't sure I was installing it right. He ensured me I was so onward I went....
