First time in the park- need recommendations

Hi all
I am thinking of visiting the parking for some hiking and camping this week ( April 20). I live in SF and I'm flying to San Diego.The weather shows it's 94 degrees! Should I not be thinking about this?!! We like to camp in remote places- perhaps not designated sites. Are there any places you could recommend with some shade and good hikes around? We will have a 4 wheel drive. Are there some higher elevations which might be cooler? I would also welcome other recommendations for primitive camping near San Diego. Thank you!
