Just curious as to what is your go to book(s) for hiking, history, etc. in Anza Borrego. I have the book by Diana and Lowell Lindsay and an old Afoot and Afield in San Diego by Jerry Schad. Any others worth getting?

caltopo.com - almost indispensable to me, matt has really made this a #1 map resource.
100 peaks - great all round so cal reference for hiking, derek has covered and documented some great areas to explore.

have those also, great for history and geo-reference, thanks for mentioning those, my mind was thinking hiking only.

Cheers Daren and thanks for all your efforts.
btw Although not a "book" G.Earth is near top of the list for exploring / hiking.

Would definitely consider these four books in addition to what everyone else has mentioned. Regarding GE and caltopo, caltopo has a lot of features that are very helpful but you can pan/tilt/zoom or revert to prior satellite imaging on GE and that come in very handy at times. Love them both.

All The Wild And Lonely Places by Larry Hogue is beautifully written. The BS library has a copy.

I'd love to read that book, but $50 is a bit steep for me.
It is somewhat expensive but it has a ton of info, I personally think value wise it is worth the money..but that is me.

Although I am brand new to this forum, I'm going to step up and recommend a new book you might not have heard of yet. While it is no guide book it is an excellent book on the rock art in the region. Don Liponi and Daren Sefcik did the photography in the book. A lot of the photography is done in a process called DStretch. DStretch brings out pictographs that may no longer be visible to the naked eye. I was a skeptic at first but found there was an app for the iPhone you could use so I tried it out on several trips I have made into the AB and surrounding area and was surprised at the results. If you might be interested in the book, you can find it at the La Rumorosa website. (A disclaimer: I designed the book for Don but that makes me no less a passionate advocate for the quality of the material within the book.)
