A fire is burning 8 miles West of Canebrake. It is burning up hill towards Mt. Laguna 2 miles away. A large bulldozer is heading toward the ranch improving the road for fire trucks. I hope they don't make a road through the Wilderness past the pepperwood Trail.

Thanks for that update. Been listening to some of the MV fire crews on the radio back in SD. Yeah, great, just what we would need, a road back up towards the rez. I read this morning from a Canebrake resident it was more in IP and not in Canebrake.

Some local folks don't know the difference between Inner Pasture and Upper Canebrake Canyon. It's actually west of Pepperwood Canyon/ trail, on the seep slope of the Laguna Mts. You can't even see it from the Canebrake community. The firemen are at our community center for meals and rest but the action is at Agua Caliente air strip. I have to assume the bulldozer stopped at or before the ranch because the are flying in all the firefighters. I hear the owner of the ranch got in trouble for entering the area with his own helicopter.

Caltopo has a couple nice map overlays that help show what's going on with active fires. Here's a link centered on the Overland Fire: https://caltopo.com/m/GLS2 You may need to zoom out.

The aqua, terra and viirs labels are satellite names. Looks like the 20-30 mph west wind is driving it down the valley.

Wow, that's a great map. I notice it shows past fires in the surrounding area too.

WITF would they light the fire? To cause some distraction?

One was half dead and had to be flown out. The Coyote split and left those 3 . It was 110 when that picture was taken. No hats?

I've seen plenty of sign of northbound travelers on the saddle between Canebrake and The Potrero, just west of Red Top. It's a serious ascent in cool weather.

Saw a video feed from a helicopter fly over on the news last night. Multiple fire locations pretty far apart. Probably ember starts. Maybe signal fire started from somebody or group out of water in 110-120 degree temps?

Matches are one of the 10 essentials that always should be carried. If you are lost or too tired to walk back, just light a big wild fire and you will be rescued.

This fire was lit by the smuggler because they would not have made it. We had a fire in the canyon in 2008 that was lit to escape from the border patrol. It's funny that the cause is still undetermined for both fires. Politicly correct?

But the smuggler wasn't caught and therefore wasn't helped, right?
