My buddy and I took the kids out to ABDSP for the weekend. We camped at Blair Valley since there is a bathroom, which is very helpful with 5 kids under 8.  It was in low 90's Saturday afternoon when we arrived. The late afternoon was pleasant and we explored some near by sights while the sun was setting. I think the low was only in the mid 40's and it warmed up early Sunday morning. We took the kids down to explore the mud caves. They liked riding in the back of the truck on the dirt roads more than the caves. I think they just like playing in the dirt more than anything. After the caves we explored some boulders and saw some neat artifacts. I have been roaming to other parts of the desert over the past few years, but ABDSP is still my favorite and has some much to see.

Interesting ants, some with wings. Anyone know anything about these?

Rosey Boa confused by the warm winter?
one of the nicest arrowheads I have seen. Not sure what type of rock it was, buy very dense.

That looks like a great trip.
Brings back memories of when my son was young and we used to take him out to Anza Borrego.
His favorite was the Mud Caves also/

Fun trip..nice desert side notched arrow...I think the ants were also confused by the warm temps, I read they usually fly out during the summer.

Just looked at the other pics....nice...yeah, who was supervising those kids anyway?? Boulder climbing, riding in the back of an open truck, playing with fire...sheesh, reminds me of when I was a kid and you could actually have fun! You guys didn't climb up to the top of Quake BM did you?

Nice trip. Was about that age my first trip out to ABDSP and never quit going. Suspect that bunch won't either. Great looking point. Tom

Kids will be hikers forever now. Wow, neat arrow point. Never seen one like that in ABDSP. Did you find that in Blair valley or mud cave area. The visitor center would love that one!

Nope, didn't go to Quake BM, just the unnamed peak (+2760) west of Foot and Walker Pass.

Neither, it was right by some rocks and some cactus. I think its much happier staying right where it was.

Awesome "stone-pointy-thing" that collectors can't do a google search on ..... Glad future generations will also have a chance to find it and leave it in place too! Love the ants. Rattlers are apparently active a little early this year too, warm and dry winter, heh? Congrats on finding a seashell out there... a rare find. Wish I was a kid again.
