Thanks to Photographer Phillip Colla and the LightHawk System you can see aerial photos of the destruction of the Ocotillo desert from the wind energy facility being built.

I started going through there in the mid 60's for our camping trips to Bow Willow. You get used to the area and think it will always be there "as is". It is so sad that public land was sold(?) to a commercial operation. And the land will have visual destruction as well as the land destroyed. Sad to think that the land was protected from off-roading but sold so some business could make money off it.

Several of those pictures (#'s 88-102) appear to be of an existing materials facility that has been there for years.

I believe they have been using that facility. The destruction is happening, they are erecting turbines now.

Are there public records anywhere that show what these industrialist payed for this desert wasteland? I'm sure that's what the BLM and businesses think of this land. Also, does anyone think that the dozer drivers and workers on this property have been told that they are to ignore any bones or other obects of interest?
Kneel!

If you want to see the day-to-day destruction from the eyes of an Ocotillo resident take a look at this site where he uploads daily photos.

It is heart wrenching to anyone that loves the desert.

Beyond sad to watch this boondoggle project come to fruition. upset
Kind of wondering how many of the residents will move once the towers go up and are operational.

Those turbines look larger than the ones at the I-8 summit. Sad.

Just looked at the album. Those things are huge. Have walked around the ones near Golden Acorn and I agree with Rockhopper these are supersized. Now, we can see The Great Wall and these from the ISS! Tom

Thanks for posting the link.
Kevin does a great job of keeping up with this.

I remember back in February 2010 when I wrote this post about the Ocotillo Express, think I found some obscure article in the IV Press.

To be honest I really didn't think it would ever happen upset
