Was going to try and do a 3-4 or maybe 5 day backpack trip somewhere next weekend, no definite plan yet. Some ideas I have are:

Rockhouse Cyn/Dawns Peak
Sawtooth Mtns/Inner Pasture/Canebrake
Mortero Palms/Carrizo Gorge

If anyone is interested in joining me for one of the above or something different let me know.

I would like to do the Rockhouse Canyon hike some day with someone that knows the canyon well (like you) but I already have a backpack trip in JTNP planned for that weekend. I have done Dawns twice which really is enough (I wonder how many people have done in more than twice) but I could always wait in the shade of one of the rock houses while you climb almost 3K ft in a mile (LOL). Dawns does have a nice view (South) and a really nice cairn (~7').

Also I have some concerns about the duration of the trip; we would need to have some reliable water source.

Basically I am saying I would like to do Rockhouse some day but not next weekend (Some other time maybe).

There are at least 2 reliable sources of water and one desperate source, that is why that area is good for so many days.
JTNP sounds good too but I am sticking closer to home...

Dawns peaks sounds awesome. Unfortunately my Wife has us scheduled for yet another wine tasting
bed and breakfast crawl that week in the Santa Inez mountians. I would rather be tent camping in the wilderness.
Have a great trip where ever you end up going.

Hey Daren,
MIght be able to meet you for the day and hike out with you. Wouldn't mind doing the Inner Pasture hike.
I am working on my Land Cruiser rebuild for the next 3 or 4 weekends but could hike out part way with you.

Bob, if I do something that starts with going out to IP I will let you know. I haven't made any solid plans yet but have a few ideas.

Daren,

Your post prompted me to read up on Dawn's Peak. It sounds like a good trip. You should see if you can get these guys to go with you: smile

Jerry Schad mentions some petroglyphs in the general vicinity. I can't make it that weekend, but good luck in whatever adventures you encounter. - Jim

So I am largely leaning towards doing a point to point from S22 > Villager/Rabbit/Dawns > RHC/Village Ruins > Butler Cyn junction.

I would need someone to meet and drive me/us from Butler junction Friday am over to the S22/Villager parking area.

Bob, (or anyone else) would you want to do a day hike to Villager and meet me Fri am at Butler junction or camp out Thursday night there and drive over in the am Fri?

If I am not able to secure a ride I will probably go up Dawns from RHC and do a loop back down thru the village ruins.

Daren
