Did a quick hike in the Cleveland NF this weekend. 9 miles, early start to beat the heat. Went up Garnet Peak then explored the Noble Canyon area. Bugs and gnats are out in full force.

From the top of Garnet Peak you can see water from Storm Canyon still flowing pretty far into Vallecito Valley.

Looking towards Granite.

Lots for flowers blooming.

I used to do a lot of mountain biking and I had always heard that Noble Canyon was one of the best spots. When I rode it, I had to keep the speed up to outrun the gnats, but every time I had to slow down for a technical section they would be swarming around my head and I had to be careful not to inhale them. I never went back.

Nice pics Rocko1. Glad to see water down in Storm. Last time I was in that area was early 2019 and that drainage was bone dry. You ever looked around Oasis Spring? Assuming that's where most of that water is originating from. Now to continue Daren's hijack of your post, here's another ebike pic up in McCain. Gunna have to step up my game to get that fully accessorized look Daren's bike has smile

Ziphius, you know what this cute fuzzy plant is?? Can't say I've ever noticed it before.

Did you ever try a bug net? I used my buff to cover my mouth but they still swarm near my eyes-even with having my shirt/pants/hat treated with permethrin.

I bought one a couple years ago for backpacking in the Sierras. That's a good idea to use it for biking in buggy areas. The helmet would probably keep it the perfect distance away from the face.

Great! The view from Garnet is one of my favorites in the park. Can't wait until the whole park is officially re-opened.

Goodness, great pictures!! Love the views, those colors are amazing. The balancing rock is really cool. And yes, great bike / trail shots!

I haven't been getting out. My usual go-to spots are within the park boundaries or areas that are closed, and I guess it's all just been a bit disorienting so I've been staying local. I really appreciate the reminders that there are options, even with all the closures. Thanks for sharing a bit of "normal". smile

Moved the ebike build to a new thread http://www.anzaborrego.net/anzaborrego/Forum/topic1533-ebike-build.aspx?MessageID=10771#post10771

@Tommy750, I like that pic of the bikes..nice!

Yeah, sorry I did hijack it, too lazy to start my own thread...Thread Hijack!

Been telling myself I am gonna write up a post on my ebike but who knows when that will happen.
Here is a link to the photos over the last year of building it up from brand new out of the box....all inspired by tommy750 and his ebike.

Nice trip Rocko. The wildlife was really enjoying that seasonal creek heading down to the desert floor.
