I am getting ready for an ABDSP trip leaving this Friday through Wednesday and was 100 miles over needing and oil change. I almost thought about not getting one but decided to go yesterday.

This is what they found in my rear differential case! I hope it can be fixed today!

Is that part of the gears or is it part of the thread from the diff plug?

phew....shop just called me and it is not the gears...said it is a shim that came loose that does no do anything....my rear brakes however are at 5%....

here is the rear diff plug with a lot of metal shavings attached to the magnet

That is good news. Brakes on the other hand upset
That is pretty standard for the metal shavings on your diff plug.

I was going to say it looks like a shim that got chewed up. I am not sure I would agree that it "does not do anything". Something (most likely a gear) will now be loose and will cause other damage or premature wear.

Just IMHO....
