We did a short trip out to Anza Borrego that was even cut shorter by a blown power steering hose near Split Rock.

Funny thing was we randomly ended up camping near Nolan in Pinyon Wash and introduced ourselves the next morning.
I have to admit I am very envious of his camping setup and was also amazed he was able to navigate it up Pinyon Wash.

If you haven't been up Pinyon Wash recently, it has changed dramatically due to the flash floods. The trail disappears in numerous places making it a bit confusing to navigate.

We have really enjoyed our stainless fire container on our camping trips

Sunset in Pinyon Wash

Morning light illuminates a forest of Cholla

With all the rain comes some color

Leaving Pinyon Wash on our way to Fish Creek and Split Mountain

The Split Mountain area is a geological wonderland with signs of plants and animals that existed millions of years ago

Brilliant blue desert sky is a great contrast to the incredible canyon walls

Bob single handily splits a large boulder in half

Heading out of Split Mountain

Blown high pressure power steering line that cut our trip short.

Sorry we couldn't hook up....yeah, when I drove out Pinyon Wash a couple weeks ago there was no road/trail...nothing, I just drove where it was clear enough and was close to what the gps said was the road. Glad you guys were able to finally get out to ABDSP!

Nolan, we were expecting to see a camper at Split Rock with cold beer when came down the mountain ridge!!

Sorry to let you guys down, I had plenty of cold beer ready to go! I almost headed up that way but turned up Pinyon Wash instead. You must have been thirsty! It was very warm on Saturday!

Bob, it was nice to meet you. Crazy how vast abdsp is and we ended up camping in the same wash! Hope you didn't follow my tracks on the way out of pinyon wash as I got lost a few times and had to bulldoze a few catclaw bushes!

Great trip Bob! Did you have an extra hose to replace the blown one out there? I like that campfire setup. smile

I followed your tracks part way out and then found my own route...
Lots of pinstripes on the Land Cruiser

Thanks Jim,

No and unfortunately the way the power steering hoses are routed on the older 80 series Land Cruisers, it is a tough job.
Limped back to my friend's shop in Ramona and replaced the hoses there.
Requires removing one of the batteries and tray and even then it is a bitch.

The fire container is cool. It is all stainless, very well made. Apparently the guy who designed these was optimistic on what people would pay for this and has since gone out of business.
My brother-in-law bought a few and gave me one for a gift.
