Kjhung... A little late replying... The rain was right on Yaqui Pass and also a lot south. Fish Creek has had a lot lately. San Felipe wash by Borrego Buttes has had water in it too. The storms are happening a lot lately, but away from Borrego Springs. Rained some in Culp Valley Monday too. Might be more tomorrow out here.

It rained quite a while out here today. Nothing heavy, but enough to get the Ocotillo green I bet.

Boy did Borrego and Ocotillo Wells get hit hard yesterday!!! A weather spotter had 2.8" of rain afternoon. Lots of flooding. 78 & S22 were closed. The county road crews are very busy this morning. Listening to them on the scanner.

Nice! The summer is the best way to see the caves, glad you guys got out there. I am surprised ranger Steve was out at Blair, that is ranger Jenifer's territory.

I don't think Jennifer is a ranger here anymore.

Hearing on the scanner that a camper by Clark Dry Lake saw a red flare and a flashlight up by Rabbit Peak tonight. Sheriffs are responding to the reporting party. Rangers are responding too.

I just saw their light and it's on the ridge leading away from parking at Truckhaven/Thimble Trail and S22

The moon is coming up and it's spectacular and blinding. Can't see over there very well. Hello seemed to not be Sheriffs.

ASTREA sees 10 people on mountain with a fire. He said they do not look in distress. The moon is really bright right now.

ASTREA told the group to call 911 to tell them they are okay. Now the light I saw was no where near where the helo is. He was using his p.a. To communicate with them. Too bad I can't tell them that the copter is not close to the flashlight.

I called Sheriff's dispatch and gave them the info, but the copter had gone westward to find a 5 year old that eventually was found in his house. Problem over!

Chances are there will be another fight against the all mighty and powerful SDG&E. The latest solar plant in our valley has no space on the power lines to transmit. That info came from NRG reps at a Borrego Springs Community Sponsor Group meeting. I brought a question up to them when they said they are using the full capability of the transmission lines. I asked about future solar projects out here with no more room on the lines and they more or less said that will be their problem. No, it will be the park's problem when SDG&E attacks it again with their plans for 500KV towers. They probably have not given up their plans to sell power to Riverside and San Bernardino counties using a route from the intersection of S2 and 79. Oh yeah, there's also a little matter about water usage for cleaning those panels off!

That damn rock fire pit at your camping site! We do Adopt a Wash and Arroyo Tapiado is one of our areas and we've removed that pit many times. People always build it right by the signs saying no ground fires!

How Accessible is Coyote Canyon Rd?

DesertWRX
DesertWRX
Just went up Coyote Canyon yesterday doing our last Adopt a Wash of the season. Went up to Monkey Hill. Bypass Rd is easy, but annoyingly bumpy. Salvador Canyon had some big rocks to slow you down!
6 fire pits to cleanup along the length of the trip. A couple were burning Ocotillo, one even had stacked up some for the next people that wanted to use his illegal ground fire ring. Everything is cleaned up and gone. Next to that, it was not bad after the crowds of flowergeddon.

Exploring Coyote Canyon w/o 4wd or High Clearance

We just recently drove our Tacoma up to Sheep Camp in 2WD. The Bypass Rd is very tame now. After the next strong rain it will be a different story. As for driving a Fit up the canyon, I would stop at 2nd Crossing. Keep an eye out for some rocks sticking up and drive around them. The trip up to 2nd Crossing will give you a lot to see. Once at 2nd Crossing you can explore that area. We did see a Subaru up in Collins Valley, but AWD and some ground clearance will work for them.

Our little group was set up at the earthquake station on Monkey Hill. Zero sheep. There is some talk about closing some sites that consistently have a lack of sheep.

Culp Valley, Old Culp Valley rd, The Slab, Dos Cabezas, Mortero Palms, Plum Canyon. This was all in mid July to early August.

I revisited Plum Canyon a couple weeks later and found someone had mostly cleaned up the graffiti and filled in the illegal fire ring.

I picked up some trash. Didn’t have room for it all.

Every Wednesday I pull invasive plants in the park. Get to see lots of flowers! We were pulling them up in Coyote Canyon, but it was closed because of safety. Just today it opened up to Desert Garden. There are a lot of flower seekers now. Henderson Canyon doesn’t have much to see right now. The Sand Verbena is spectacular on S-22 from Clark Dry Lake to the middle of the Badlands.
Living in Borrego is great, but the Flowergeddon period was not so great!

ABDSP has not been putting up closure signs very well. Then again south of 78 there are lots of roads and that area is not patrolled as well as the main part of the Park. The Air Patrol Ranger is making PA announcements to campers and parked vehicles when needed.

Found 4 dead cottontails on our property recently. Hopefully it is the virus and not a neighbor poisoning them.
